Tidewater
A Home Where The Water is Part of Daily LIfe
Construction: VDT Construction
Architecture: Chatham Home Planning
4,718 sq ft · 6 Bedrooms · 5.5 Baths
Tidewater sits on the Old River side of Ono Island, with a pier that runs out over the sand to a covered boathouse and views across the water to Perdido Key. It’s a home where the water is part of daily life, visible from the front door and only a few steps from the back porch.
Inside, bright, open rooms and warm wood accents keep the house relaxed and easy to live in. Large sliding glass doors connect the main living spaces to the covered porch, pool, and pier, so the home and the waterfront feel like one continuous place.
THE VISION
The owners wanted a primary residence that made island life part of every day, not just the weekends. That meant a home that felt open and bright, with plenty of room for family and guests, and an outdoor space designed to be used. Coffee on the porch, a swim after work, an evening down at the boathouse: the house needed to make all of it feel effortless.
Our Approach
We designed Tidewater around the view, with clear sightlines from the front door to Old River and living spaces that open directly onto the porch and pool. Inside, timber beams and a stained wood island add warmth to the bright white kitchen.
Tidewater was also built to the FORTIFIED Gold standard, a construction program designed to help homes better withstand high winds and severe coastal weather. On the water, that means the owners can enjoy island life with more confidence.

THE REsult
Tidewater is a home where the outdoors is never an afterthought. Every space, inside and out, was shaped to make the most of its place on the water, and the result is a residence that feels as relaxed as island living should. It’s a true reflection of the Alabama Gulf Coast lifestyle.
“VDT Construction Inspired Confidence and did a great job on both the homes they built for us.
VDT is very good at what they do, professional and knowledgeable, and demand top-quality work standards from all their subcontractors. We are older, recently retired, and had never built a house before, and were anxious about the projects, which were substantial investments for us. VDT Construction inspired confidence in their ability to build our homes and did a great job on both. They also follow up and service what they build. We highly recommend VDT to anyone looking for a top-quality home builder.”
