Sunset Point
Designed Around Views of the Bay
Construction: VDT Construction
Architecture: Chatham Home Planning
Interior Design: Allyson Runnels Interiors
Evenings at Sunset Point follow a familiar rhythm. You notice the light changing over Choctawhatchee Bay, and before long the whole house has gathered outside, at the edge of the pool, on the swing beneath the loggia, or down at the end of the dock, to watch the sunset.
With the bay wrapping around the homesite, the home was designed around that view. Arched openings and warm white oak floors carry you through 6,535 square feet that feel easy and connected, never formal, with nearly every room turned toward the water.
THE VISION
The owners weren’t building an escape. They were envisioning a place where their life would happen: slow mornings in the breakfast nook, weekends when the house fills with family, and holidays that spill out onto the outdoor living space. They wanted a home that could welcome a crowd and still feel personal on a quiet evening.
Allyson Runnels Interiors carried that spirit into every room, with soft coastal blues, natural textures, and furnishings meant to be lived on, not just looked at.
Our Approach
We let the land lead. The property falls gently toward the bay, so rather than flatten it, we worked with its natural contour, stepping the pool terrace, garden walls, and walkways down with the grade. Each level flows into the next, and every space holds onto the view.
Just as much care went into what you can’t see. Living on Choctawhatchee Bay means wind, salt air, and humidity are part of everyday life, so from the structure to the exterior finishes, every decision was made with decades of coastal weather in mind. The goal was a home that ages with grace instead of wearing down.

THE REsult
Years later, the rhythm hasn’t changed. The light still shifts over Choctawhatchee Bay, and the family still finds its way outside to watch. Sunset Point remains one of our favorite examples of what waterfront living in Destin can be: a home that belongs to its land, stands up to its setting, and above all, feels like home.
